This is a full day class taught on Lake Michigan.  The course is designed to provide a supervised setting for learning and skill building out on the "big water".

Pre-requisites:  Students should have taken the equivalent of our Basics of Kayaking class or have substantial kayaking experience.  Students are required to provide a sea or day touring kayak with two sealed bulkheads,  PFD, spray skirt, and basic safety equipment.  You will also need to bring a lunch and beverages for the day.  Participants should be 14 years of age or older.

Time: This class runs 6-7 hours

Location: The class will be held on the Lake Michigan shoreline somewhere north of Muskegon.  Exact location TBD.

Part I On-Land Activities

1.  Welcome, introductions, and expectations
2.  Course overview, paperwork, policies
3.  Equipment inspection
4.  Weather and environment assessment
5.  Group paddling dynamics and communication

Part II On-the-water Exercises
1.  Skill assessment and review
2.  Open water exercises including rescues and navigation
3.  Towing excercises
4.  LUNCH ON THE BEACH!
5.  Bracing in waves and wave paddling (conditions permitting)
6.  Advanced rescues
7.  Advanced strokes and maneuvers
8.  Debrief
