This is a course designed for new or developing kayakers who want to paddle away from shore or for fitness as well as fun. This 6 hour class will aid in negotiating wind and waves, introduce advanced boat control, and improve your off-shore safety skills.
Some prior kayaking experience highly recommened.
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER and HAVE A KAYAK WITH 2 BULKHEADS AND A SPRAY SKIRT
We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the program and allow a maximum of 6 students per class with a student/instructor ratio of no more than 3:1.

Part I - On-land activities

3. Hypothermia, Cold Shock, Hyperthermia
4. Dressing for Success-Clothing for Kayaking
5. Accessories and Safety Equipment
6. The Big 3-Kayaks, Paddles, and PFD's
7. Paddle set-up and use
8. Boat fit and Skirt use
Part II- On-Water activities
1. Entering/Exiting Your Kayak
2. Wet Exit Demo and Practice
3. Kayak paddle strokes-Forward, Reverse, Sweeps, and Stops
4. Solo and 2-person In-Water Rescues

Part III- On-Water activities
1. Edging and Leaning
2. Hip Snap Development
3. Bracing Stroke Development
4. Putting it all together
